GENRE STUDY: FANTASY FILMS
This is a list of codes and conventions which fantasy films follow. Fantasy films are usually based in a mythical land and characters speak a foreign language.
GENERAL CODES
Fantasy films follow certain codes which make it a fantasy film. Here are some of those:
- Set on another world
- Contains a mythical beast
- Involves some element of magic and / or witchcraft
- Music is very happy until someething bad happens
- Bright lights are used in the daytime
- Usually darker when entering a dark cave for example
EXAMPLES
Some examples where these codes are used are:
- How to train your dragon (2010 movie on the left)
- The neverending story
- The hobbit and lord of the rings
- Final Fantasy Series
